'Commander Bill' Gunter - Children's & Youth Ministry

Commander Bill has been involved in ministry to children and youth for over twenty years. Being "raised in the church", he came to know and accept Jesus as his Saviour when he was 11. Throughout his life, Commander Bill has seen God move in many ways, even taking him to New England in order for him to find his wife.

At Northwest Baptist, Commander Bill was "introduced" to the Awana ministry. He became involved because there was need for leaders and his daughter wasn't passing all the sections that she had prepared. In 1998, he became the commander of the Awana ministry at Northwest Baptist. God truly blessed the Awana ministry under the leadership of Commander Bill. Children from over 15 churches came to Northwest Baptist to attend Awana. Seeing the impact of Awana in the local church and abroad through the regional events, Commander Bill joined the Capital Region ministry team in the spring of 2002.

In January of 2004, after the initial meeting to discuss the start of Hanover Fellowship, the originating families expressed that children's ministry must hold a high priority in the structure of the church. 'Commander Bill' was contacted by the staff of Northwest Baptist to guide them in establishing an Awana ministry. In the summer of 2004, "Commander Bill' answered the call to lead Awana and children's church at Hanover Fellowship. In the spring of 2005, a ministry to youth was added.

Ministries that Commander Bill has been involved in include:

• youth director at Reisterstown Evergreen Church of the Brethren
• while in college, began a children's church ministry at Green Tree Church of the Brethren
• children's director at Reisterstown Church of the Brethren where he began a mid week children's ministry which he named K.I.C.K. (Kids In Christ's Kingdom).
• Vacation Bible School Director, Sunday School and Children's Church leader
